About The Negative Thoughts
I noticed something quite interesting
When I do the Anki vocabulary task, I would encounter a lot of negative thoughts if too many words I can’t remember, devastated, frustration, depression all come together; But If I did this same Anki vocabulary task when I do a massage, then there would be very little negative thought, I think this perhaps because:
- When I was confined in a closed space and time, I don’t have time and energy to do a negative thought
- The massage itself gives you a physical sense that deviates my attention, so I can’t focus on a negative thought
- Because the task doing well at the end when this confined space and time put through, a positive thought would offset the negative one
So the conclusion here is: Your negative thoughts are partial because you can do it(when got time, space, energy, focus), so if you need these negative thoughts you can keep them for a better reflection, but if you don’t want them, do something to interfere these negative thoughts is definitely necessary
And my negative thoughts would come from:
- When I do the Anki vocabulary task, it takes so much time and energy, and it was so inefficient
- When I read a paper with a lot of Math formulas that I completely don’t understand
- When I deal with a Math or AI problem hours but still don’t know how to begin
So, the solution to overcome them is obversely and I can try:
- Limit the time. Confine yourself with a deadline and promise to others
- Limit the space. Do it in a public location, such as a coffee bar, a public library or WeWork
- Limit the energy. Play some music for auditory sensation, feel the wing for tactual sensation, or reduce the room temperature for temperature sensation
- Limit the focus: Do it in a study room with classmates or in an office with colleagues(you can focus on your mates easily when you need, rather than focus on your negative thoughts)
Take away: negative thoughts are because you got time, space, energy, focus to produce them, so try to deprive them for overcoming the unnecessary negative thoughts
